Joker Mourns the Loss of XL (Peter Slate)

On July 4, 2003, Joker Brand, lost a member of its family, Peter Slate, a.k.a. XL, in a tragic automobile accident. XL’s positive energy and endless innovative ideas will be greatly missed. XL was a key player in developing the Joker brand and concept. He was a gifted writer, musician, and artist. As a co-founder of Channel Xero and later as a member of Mass Distortion on Power 106, Peter brought the rock-rap genre to the forefront of mainstream hip hop. XL touched the lives of every one that knew him. The Joker Brand street-teams he built targeted intercity youth with positive messages from their hip hop role models. For XL, touching the lives of young people was of paramount importance. XL was in the midst of developing a non-profit organization that would bring cultural events and popular artists to under-privileged communities.

Beyond all his accomplishments, XL was a great person with an unforgettable presence. Joker Brand is, in thought and prayer, with XL’s mother and brother. For his friends and extended family at Joker, BGS&E, BBP, Soul Assassins, Cypress Hill, Supreme Kourt, SX10, Mass Distortion, Power 106 Peter/XL will live on forever as symbol of creativity, love, and optimism. Fans who knew XL as an MC and a rapper in tours throughout the United States in the company of hip hop innovators such as Cypress Hill and Limp Biskit, lost a greater entertainer and consummate artist.

The Joker Brand family prays the Peter/XL will rest in peace knowing that he touched so many lives and that his positive contributions to this world will live on through his friends and family.
